Task 1 - Group Presentation of Middle Years issues (50%)
Topic: Teaching and learning strategies which engage and challenge Middle Years students
Hi guys, here is our Wiki space to communicate about anything to do with our project. Feel free to include anything you wish just remember to place a horizontal rule across the page so we know where one ends and the other begins. May the learning begin.... (A+ here we come!!!!) Some Useful Sites for you to access quickly:
Hi Guys - I'm very impressed with the wiki Peter and the notes Gary. The conference button in skype could be the useful one for the 4 way but not tried it yet, just looking last night when waiting for a friend. Hope you all made it home OK, esp Bianca and Sarah. Wendy* Oh! So this is how you post on the home page! In that case, ignore my discussion post thanks Petey, again, for setting up this wiki for us! Look forward to knuckling down on the project with you all. I'm not sure who posted that Koshie and Mel idea but I love it - it'll be hilarious if we can pull it off! Someone's gonna have to play a baldie, though! I'll also make a suggestion and add a fourth interviewee - a student, perhaps? Get a perspective from a middle-years kid, themselves. But by all means, throw some ideas around. Take care, everyone - Jen.
THANKS PETE!
Thanks for setting up the Wiki Pete, good work.
I just thought I would write quickly a very rough skeleton idea of what is in my head from our first brief meeting in Shepparton so please this is where everyone can edit, add, make comments or just give more ideas on how this will evolve.
MODE OF PRESENTATION- At this stage we are saying that we will produce a short segment on a morning type news show similar to 'sunrise' maybe called 'sunset'
GENERAL IDEA- The two hosts of 'sunset' introduce a scenario where some middle school students have run riot or caused some sort of trouble in a school setting. A rebellion of some sort that has got something to do with our topic. i.e they rebelled because of inappropriate teaching and learning strategies?? A
After introducing the topic the hosts could then bring together some experts in the field of middle years learning to give thier advice on the particular issue.
SOME EXPERT SUGGESTIONS-
I am sure most of you will have better ideas on who our experts could be so please add, edit, change these;
CHILD PSYCHOLOGIST- Could maybe delve into the characteristics of middle year students / adolescents, although I am not sure how to make sure that this relates back to our topic.
OLD SCHOOL TEACHER- We could have one of them bieng an old school blackboard, I say-You do sort of teacher that believes in not giving the kids a say. I am not sure but I think the only way that this would work is if one of the hosts quizzes them on how thier classroom operates and the response could be a negative one. i.e. The teacher could respond:Excellent the kids are quiet all the time and I achieve great outcomes because most of my students drop out meaning that only the really committed ones progress into further years????
TEACHER FROM A 'OPEN LEARNING' ENVIRONMENT- With the big emphasis of learning centres going around at the the moment I thinnk it would be great if we could include learning centres somewhere in our presentation. We could cross to a teacher who runs an open learning cener who could then describe what an open learning center is all about the benefits of such an environment etc. I have no idea if this is possible or not but I am doing my Prac at an open learning center and I think it would be great if we could film this expert from inside the learning center while the students are working could also ask a student if they could get involved and just respond to what do you think of the open learning center, and they could say "excellent" or something like that, I am not sure whether it is feasible or not would have to talk to the school about it*
??????????????????????????????????
TIMING: ????????? Does anyone know if it is ten or fifteen minutes?
MEETING TIME: ??????????
What do we think about trying to make the hosts look like koshie and Mel ? might be funny...
- Gazza
Peter Hey guys, great to see the Wiki is off and running!!! Gazza i think your ideas are fantastic. Im also thinking that if we are all going to add things to the topic it may get really long and messy if we just keep on posting things at the bottom of the page so perhaps we should bring up ideas in the discussion page and then we can add to Gaz's skeleton once we decide on what we should add. it would also keep things neat and easy to reply to each comment. Does that sound ok to everyone? Kinda like we do on LMS. :) Howdie everyone, **Thanks so much to Pete for getting this going, it's fantastic!
Love all the comments so far and I shall add to discussion soon but for now it's just g'day and I hope you all are doing well.
